The XDOS
In my search to find a reliable, ultrafast and simple operating system for some of my electronics projects I went back to the old days of MS-DOS. The problem with MS-DOS today is that it lacks of the many features of the modern operating systems. We want a fast and reliable operating system, with as many features as it can be. That is why I created XDOS. It is fully compatible with MS-DOS, written in assembler and including a collection of utilities and drivers, to be able to do many of the things that you are used to do, in modern computers, yet using DOS. The real-mode single-process nature of the OS is a drawback for many, but a real advantage in critical applications. A powerful feature of XDOS is that it runs from a USB stick drive (provided that you have a computer which supports boot from USB), so you do not need to format your computer in order to install it on the hard drive. Some of its many features include:
Ability to boot XDOS from USB stick.
Pseudo GUI for easy file access. (Pseudo GUI is very fast and reliable in comparison to X-like GUI. Other GUIs available too).
CD-ROM driver.
Mouse driver.
Many network cards packet drivers.
USB support
TCP/IP stack.
Huge lot of applications for programming, edit, graphics, games, internet and more.
XDOS is currently under development.
The current version (3) of XDOS can be found here: XDOS (847Mb .zip file. Last updated 28 May 2010)
